As a pear shape, you have the advantage of having a very good upper body which is why much of the emphasis in dressing is on visually broadening your shoulders and balancing out your hips.
Statement tops that draw the eye upward and highlight your best feature.
Choose more subtle and dark colours on your bottom half as this will highlight your beautiful top half.
Large layered necklaces that sit above the bust were made for you.
Your jackets and tops need to sit either above or below the widest point of your hips.
When choosing a top, shirt, sweater etc you should be focusing on widening the width of your shoulders and/or bust, and defining your waist to balance out your curvier hips. Necklines should be wide and short and embellishments, big collars and ruffles will also balance out your lower half. Long sleeves should be tapered at the wrist to add visual width to your shoulders. Avoid balloon sleeves or sleeves that flare at the wrist. Tops with nipped in waists, bright colours, bold patterns and horizontal stripes will also work well for you. Shirts with breast pockets will also draw the eye upwards. To really flatter your shape, choose cropped sweaters that don’t go beyond your hips or alternatively go for loose long sweaters that hit mid-thigh.
If you choose the right trousers for your shape, they will narrow your hips and take attention away from your lower body. Skirts are an excellent way to disguise larger hips providing you choose the right style. Plain fronted, more relaxed trouser fits that fall straight down from the widest part of the hips will be best on you. Opt for darker colours, and clean lines, avoid big pockets and patterns, so that you don’t draw attention to your lower half. When it comes to jeans, straight-cut and bootleg shapes are perfect. Also choose a mid to high-rise waist and stick to dark denim. Avoid skinny shaped trousers or jeans that will cling to your hips or thighs as these will only make your hips look bigger. The current trend for fuller skirts will look great on your shape as they skim the body without adding volume. You could also choose a straight cut skirt, just avoid anything that is too tight fitting and that hugs your hips.
The best dresses for your shape should draw attention to your waist while concealing your bottom half. Avoid dresses in thick fabrics and remember to choose necklines that broaden your shoulders (eg) large collars.
Use pattern, colour and embellishments on your top half to draw the eye upwards.
Straight-fit longline cardigans that skim over your hips will elongate your body and make it appear slender.
Avoid trousers that are too low on your hips as these won’t make the most of your curves.
Avoid mini-skirt, jacket or cardigan hemlines that finish on your hips, thighs or any other full point of your leg.
Avoid details, patterns and pockets on your thigh and hip area as this will draw attention away from your gorgeous waist.
